Internet is not FB
There are so many reasons why I am not on FB. But RMS’s reasons are a superset
of my reasons. To know his reasons go through
http://www.stallman.org/facebook.html.
Not-using-FB will, at least, save some of your time from getting wasted and one
can channelize that for some better activity.
For students who are keen on exploring and learning, I can think of so many
better internet activities than Facebook. Following are some of them
- Ted.com :- TED (Technology, Entertainment, Design) is
a global set of conferences owned by the private non-profit Sapling
Foundation, under the slogan “ideas worth spreading”.
- Coursera.org :- Coursera is an education
platform that partners with top universities and organizations worldwide, to
offer courses online for anyone to take, for free.
- gnu.org :- GNU is a Unix-like operating system that
is free software—it respects
your freedom. You can install versions of GNU (more precisely, GNU/Linux
systems) which are entirely free software.
- irc.freenode.net :- Freenode Internet
relay chat.
- khanacademy.org :- Khan Academy is an
organization on a mission. We’re a not-for-profit with the goal of changing
education for the better by providing a free world-class education for
anyone anywhere.
- slashdot.org :- Slashdot (sometimes abbreviated as
/.) is a technology-related news website.
- gmane.org :- Gmane is an e-mail to news gateway.
- github.com :- Online project hosting using Git.
Includes source-code browser, in-line editing, wikis, and ticketing. Free
for public open-source code. Commercial closed source hosting is also
available.
